Trust is a sensitive issue to many couples and individuals. Without it a relationship's days are numbered, and an individual will never reach their full potential for happiness. So, what is it that makes a person unable to trust someone or themselves? Let's first look at the word trust and what it means.
Trust can mean having confidence in someone or something. It can mean to depend on someone, or believe in them. It can also mean to extend confidentiality to a person. Looking at these definitions, it easy to see why it's a very important key to a happy relationship. When you become a couple, you are telling the other person that you have confidence that they won't betray you, you depend on them to be there for you, you believe in them as a person and you can share everything with them. You are also saying that you will do the same for them in return.
If a person breaks your trust, it means they have failed you in some way. This can cause a host of different reactions, such as anger, fear, insecurity, doubt, apathy, sorrow and more. So, you could say, our lack of trust comes from our desire not to have those feelings and/or reactions.
It is also probable to say, that if a person has never been failed before, or failed another person, then they won't have a problem with trusting other people or themselves.
If you find yourself in a situation where trust is a problem, take the time to realize where it is stemming from. Did other people fail you in the past? Have you failed yourself or another previously? Or, are you too scared to feel painful emotions? Write about events that you remember when you answer these questions.
You might also want to take a look at how your lack of trust affects the people around you. If trusting in someone means you believe in them, then distrust means you don't believe in them. If trust means you believe they will be there for you and won't betray you, then your distrust means you believe they will let you down and/or betray you. Any types of negative thoughts or words are bound to affect a person negatively. The next time you think you don't trust someone, make sure that your quest to avoid being hurt isn't going to end up hurting you, by not allowing you the freedom to truly enjoy the time you have with them.
Every person is equipped with the ability to handle any situation they may find themselves in. The situation may not be pleasant, but the odds are you won't die from it either. If you look at life as a way to learn and experience, you'll realize that the things that don't kill truly do make you stronger. Be confident in yourself. If you never try, you'll never know that you can do it.
It's weird when i hear love stories about couples who are together, mutter "i love you", yet don't trust each other. Why then get into a relationship if you think your partner is not going to be with you for long?...weird weird
