Personally, I echo the govt that these two resorts are not gaming haven. It's just a larger size of SAFRA or NTUC where there are plenty of family entertainment facilities with a small portion dedicated to gaming for the sole purpose of generating revenues. Gambling, in the eyes of the holy ones, are equivalent to that of prostitutes and drinking. These are the things readily available in the society and are the things the govt cannot deprive the citizens of. I wish i could beg people to put themselves in the shoes of the govt. As the rulers of the country, can we ill afford the IR? Gambling is already here in Singapore. Travelling to nearby cruises or batam takes lesser time than travelling from Tampines to Bukit Timah Nature Reserves. What more can we say about that?
Casions are necessary in this project so as to attract the blood sucking assholes to invest here. They've got two wonderful plans for us and have adhere to our request of making the gaming 3-5% of the IR. If we reject them, they'll simply go somewhere else...most likely a place near us to setup their asian investment to tap into the growing tourism in asia-pacific. Singapore does not need the casino, but we desperately need the IR and we know for sure the IR will never materialise if we do not allow gaming facilities to be in them. Fantasy Island, Asian Village, Tang Dynasty and Har Paw Villa closed their doors due to their small scale, lack of newer and more trilling rides and ultimately, revenue from a golden one-armed goose.
If rumours from kiathy are right, that something like Universal Studios will descend upon our southern island, then i say we have a glimsp of hope in staying abreast with the economic developments abroad. So let's all rally behind the govt shall we... oppose all we can, the PM has made his stand and we shall help him minimise the social costs and maximise the economic benefits.
Recruit me Mr Lee... just don't make me sit in the Parliment listening to everyone else parroting your views. Hmmm...
