Another day of studying...

Every year NKF will perform their fund raising show on TV with mediacorp artists dangling from midair asking people at home to call in to donate. There is always this little voice in my head telling me "give them a break dude... all they're trying to do is to raise some money for the poor souls"... well, i'm pretty cool with the idea of raising money but the way they are doing it has been blatantly shouting "foul play" at me. I know pretty much the whole world has taken their shot at this rich little NKF... haiz...

American Idol a few nights ago: "Call 1862 999 8805 if you support idol number 5. This is Mr Constantly-Cannot-Sing"
NKF Charity Show last night: "Call 1900 112 8888 if you support ENERGY!!!"

The only difference between the two? cost of the calls. The latter is actually a series of 8 calls each cost $5. I dun know what other additional costs are there but it is certainly not cheap. When has it turn from "Call if you want to help the poor old kidney failing patients..." to "Call if you support ur fav. idol"!!! There seems to be a competition of "whose acts get the most number of calls". Apparently, if you have more phone calls during ur mid-air stunt, the more popular you are. I bet it beats getting the Grammys any day. Imagine one day you have the annual-NKF-Most popular Artist award.

My hands are shaking from hunger...

Now we even have the hourly or half hourly call-in-to-win-limited-edition-credit-cards competition. And if the winner has records of calling in the previous year, the winnings double from $5000 to $10000. This is incredibly ridiculous. As my father pointed out, a desperate man can pick up a phone and call as many jsut to win that $10000. With the winnings, he can easily pay off the bills. In the event that he doesn't get the lot, he can just default on SingTel. I mean, there are so many of these contest...This charity show has deteroriated to a mere 4-D/Toto show. It's live gambling. Let's dun talk about the freebies... My mum took me by shock last night by saying "tonight i'm going to call 3 calls..." when asked why the certain number of calls, she replied proudly "oooh, cause if you make 3 calls and above, you can get some vouchers..."

I do believe these freebies and lucky draws are necessary to entice pragmatic singaporeans to dig deeper into their pockets but isn''t there this fine line that divides pure kind intentions and greed driven donations? I'm not saying i can perform a better job at organising this for i'm not one who will ask artists to hang up side down playing irritating noises called "music". The "stunts" are surpassing any of that performed by the Moscows Circles, and i'm just waiting for the year to come where our prime minister or his wife will be parachuting down into the studio.

Well... talk is cheap. Though i don't agree with everything the artists are doing, we should still donate some to these poor people who are unfortunate enough to get their kidneys damaged. Some attribute this ill-fate to their poor diet...others blame it on God... I say let's help these people while we can. I'm fainting from hunger...
