Great Photographers in NUS
There was a photographic competition in NUS recently and just before the submission closed, an email was sent out to inform all members of the society to participate. Since i paid for the membership, I scrambled through my recent archives to see if i have any photo that matches the theme. Anyway, i submitted this photo under the "colours of life" theme and was unfortunate not to be selected.
Dear all,I'm actually looking forward to see the wonderful 43 entries which must be of a higher standard than my little girl and doggie photo. =) Great opportunity to learn from the experts. Please do drop by to llook at the winning entries!!!
Organized by the NUS Photographic Society, NUS Exhibition 2006, Colour & Contrast has received a total of 349 entries, out of which 43 prints were selected for exhibition.

Took this at a tourist spot back in malacca. The effect wasn't what i had in mind as i tried to go for a very low key effect. The lady in the photo turned away just when i clicked the shutter which created this effect as though she was shunning away from the lighted window. Anyway this is just an experimental shot. =)
hmm, i pretty sure u had better pictures than the one of the gal and the dog. Actually I liked that photo but technically it wasn't good. I think the dog's head must have been moving too much hence the blurness.
Eh you damn bloody ego la. Yours not selected means that they are great photographers, haha :P
Anyway, yes, that isn't what I'd expect you to submit. Tecnically it wasn't perfect. Aesthetically, it was just a photo shot with a tele lens with hell lotsa bokeh. Emotionally, the girl's interacting with her dog, but her expression isn't exactly one that would win you a place for exhibition either. Finally, based on the theme of your entry, this isn't exactly a powerful entry on "Colours of Life"
Anyway, back to this photo. I'd prefer to give it a stronger title, like "What lies beyond" or something along that lines rather than "By the Window"
I like how she's softly lit by the windows and looking into the shadows. It's like a pensive moment.
I don't like the messy background behind her. I think you could afford to place her further to the right as her current position seems rather awkward - not exactly center but not exactly at the 2/3rds. Not sure if shifting yourself could get a cleaner background then, though.
J: ego? hahah, tks for pointing out. Her position was a headache. Don't know how i overlooked that when framing. hmmm maybe i was in a rush.
