Creative Thinking & Writing
There is actually such a module in my university and it is mandatory for all engineers to go through a couple of months of such training. I dare not say that I possesscreative writing and thinking skills but something within me struggles with the concept of formal creative training. What do you get from several monologues with a tutor regarding comparative summary and critique on essays? - the much needed "101 ways to score better in CTW exams". A top listed tutor will usually list out the steps, for e.g.
Tutor: ok class, to score well for your ctw assignment 1 (comparative summary), please give me 2 para, the first one comparing and contrasting the view pts from the two excerpts and the second expressing your evaluation. Do not give me otherwise because you will be penalised (which effectively means, you are not being creative!!!)
Besides the strict scoring guidelines to the creative assignments, the style of teaching within the lessons are even more rigid then my marketing lectures. Students are not allowed to speak much, views are not openly shared and the tutor ignores any comments made without raising one's hand. Instead, comments should be made on a transparency and presented to the class in a dictative manner without any dynamice discussion. Furthermore, we follow a timetable stricter than that of the MRT trains. One tutorial on comparative summary, one tutorial on how to do critiques, one tutorial on ... I overheard the tutor saying to this poor indian chap this morning.
"oh you missed the tutorial on assignment one? i'm sorry i can't teach you anything. Please go back and read up on your own. Try your best to understand and then read the examples which i will be sending over the weekend."
Practice makes perfect eh? I wonder how much practice must i do so i can be a creative person. 5 ten year series before i graduate? Hopefully that will be enough.

Robbie Fowler is back with the Kops. My favourite striker for the Reds has come home, to a place where he truly belongs. Hopefully he can impress the boss after such a long break at those mediocre clubs. Show me the tape on the nose!, show me the overhead volley! Show me the fatest hatricks! Show me what you can to Everton, Man U and the disgusting rivals!!! Show me the goals! Show me your finishing! oh Fowler!!!!

okie this is very very out of point but portrait pics are hard to see properly cos it cant fit into my screen all at once.. haha. :p
The module itself is interesting. How it is taught (in tutorials) is disappointing. Imagine teaching art module as if it were a science subject. I agree with you, this module just encourages students to be narrow-minded.
yoyo are u talking bout eg1413? if so, isn't it critical thinking and writing?
anyway, i struggled with it last sem too.. the final project was very time consuming..
anyway.. put it aside for these few days, and enjoy your holidays! c u ard!!!
