This is the start of my "birdpark" shots which i took quite some time back when kelvin got us free tix to the tourist attraction. We were pretty rush with the shots due to time constraints and perhaps due to the two bird shows which we enjoyed. Pardon my lack-of-creativity title for this one, my brain's pretty dead.

This owl was flying around among others during the "flying predator" show. The DOF of my sigma lens is extremely sensitive at the super tele end and the lighting was really tricky at 5pm in the afternoon. Certain parts of the field are in shade while some other parts are overly exposed. The only "safe" aperture was 5.6 which meant i had to be really careful about the focus. I have a few shots of clear focus on the owl's eye and chose this one because there's some interaction from the owl. However, i am pretty poor at reading its lips... help anyone?

Anonymous said...: Hey, this will do well for a S3 ad! The colours are shockingly vibrant, the owl's chiselled and jumping out of the creamy greens at me. The colours are harmonious and pleasing to the eye. And his expression, is, well, just great!

The owl's face symmetry is doing your composition great justice, albeit my attention seems to stray to the end of the "birdkeeper"'s fingers, expecting to find something there.; 15 May, 2006 00:12

Anyway i had troubles composing the hand in but ultimately i decided to give it some space at the bottom because i wanted to showcase this as a "jurong birdpark" kinda thing. Didn't want to isolate the owl so much to deceive the viewers that it's taken in the nature... erm, just random thoughts then. sounds stupid now.
